Science and Health Professions Building Granted Final Approval

Borough Board Vote Paves Way for 2014 Construction

Hunter College is proud to announce that on Thursday, November 21st, our joint venture with Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center (MSKCC) was approved by the Manhattan Borough Board, paving the way for construction on our state-of-the-art Science and Health Professions building to begin in the next few months. The vote followed our successful completion of the land use process last month.

"This is truly one of the most important projects in the history of our great institution, "said President Jennifer Raab. "After more than a decade of hard work in partnership with Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, our students and faculty will soon see this ambitious project begin to take shape on 74th Street. This approval represents yet another step in our ultimate goal of improving the health and well-being of New Yorkers."

When construction is complete, Hunter's collaboration with MSKCC will result in a spectacular new science and health professions building that will include a 336,000-square-foot science and nursing facility to train our world class students and advance faculty research. Adjoining this will be a 750,000-square-foot building housing MSKCC's innovative cancer research center.

Taken together, these buildings will form a complex at the cutting edge of research and treatment in a collaborative environment that is guaranteed to produce real results for New Yorkers.
