Statement of support of Governor Cuomo's Proposed Education Reforms

Jennifer J. Raab, President of Hunter College:

"As home to one of New York State's finest Schools of Education, Hunter College stands fully behind the Governor's proposals to use education as 'the great equalizer' -- by both supporting teachers and increasing standards.  In particular, we are thrilled at the Governor's plan to expand teacher residency into an innovative statewide model, as the Hunter/New Visions Urban Teacher Residency program has already proven how important supervised teaching can be in improving the quality of education in a teacher's first years.  We also warmly welcome the Governor's proposal to pay full SUNY and CUNY graduate-level scholarships for high-achieving students who commit to teaching.  The proposed changes are both groundbreaking and necessary: the students that will be taught by the next generation of New York's teachers deserve nothing less than the very best."
