Hunter College Center for Communication Disorders

The Hunter College Center for Communication Disorders (HCCCD) located in the North Building of the Brookdale Health Sciences campus of Hunter College on East 25th Street, is the Communication Sciences Program's on-campus clinical training site for Speech-Language Pathology master's level students. In addition, doctor of Audiology (AuD) students enrolled in the CUNY AuD Consortium rotate each semester through the HCCCD. The Center provides the opportunity for graduate students in the Communication Sciences Program to obtain clinical practicum experience under the supervision of ASHA certified and NYS licensed SLP and AUD faculty. The HCCCD was established in 1957 to provide services to the College and surrounding community for persons of all ages with disorders of speech, language and/or hearing.

The mission of the Communication Sciences Program and the Hunter College Center for Communication Disorders is:

  1. to develop professionals who will meet the healthcare and educational needs of the metropolitan New York area through prevention, assessment and management of communication disorders in children, adolescents and adults from culturally, ethically and linguistically diverse populations;
  2. to produce clinically based research that will advance knowledge of normal and disordered processes of communication across the lifespan;
  3. to provide educational and clinical services to the College and the metropolitan New York City communities; and,
  4. to provide leadership in clinical practice to the professions of Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology as a whole.

HCCCD has state of the art facilities offering assessment and treatment services in speech, language, voice and hearing to the New York metropolitan community.

The COMSC Program is accredited by the Council on Academic Accreditation in Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology and adheres to all standards and guidelines set for its graduates to apply for professional certification and state licensure. All services at the HCCCD are provided under the direct supervision of speech-language pathologists and audiologists who are certified by the American Speech-Language Hearing Association (ASHA) and licensed by the New State Department of Education.
