Non-matriculate
Undertaking studies of the pre-professional courses in COMSC is a two-step process:
- filing for non-degree status, and
- obtaining departmental permission.
To file an application as a non-degree student go to the Graduate Admissions Office webpage. Students who do not take any courses for two consecutive semesters will need to re-apply.
Non-degree students obtain department permission to enroll in a COMSC course by attending an Open Advisement session. Minimum requirements to obtain departmental permission are:
- transcript review (official transcripts are not necessary)
- at least a 3.3 (that's three point three) overall GPA on the transcript(s)
Attendance at an Open Advisement Session for transcript review is required to obtain departmental permission. These appointment-only meetings with faculty allow prospective students to briefly discuss setting goals for taking non-matriculated courses and applying to the COMSC Program. Open Advisement is offered on one day, approximately 3-4 weeks prior to the start of each semester. To receive notification of the next Open Advisement session and to make an appointment for that day, contact the COMSC office.
Hunter College only offers a graduate degree in Speech-Language Pathology. Undergraduates from within Hunter College may take just one pre-requisite course during the final semester of their senior year and only if they have a 3.5 GPA. Departmental permission is required.
