Jan Heller Levi, poetry
Jan Heller Levi won the prestigious Walt Whitman Award of the Academy
of American Poets for her first book of poems, Once I Gazed
at You in Wonder. She's also the editor of A Muriel Rukeyser
Reader, a collection of that pioneering writer's poetry and
prose. In the fall of 2005, she celebrated with us the publication of a new edition of The Collected Poems of Muriel Rukeyser, on which she served as consulting editor, and Directed by Desire: The Collected Poems of June Jordan, which she co-edited with Sara Miles. Levi's new collection of poems, Skyspeak, was published in December 2005. Levi's other awards
include the George Bogin Memorial Award and The Emily Dickinson
Award for her poetry, both from the Poetry Society of America. In
addition to teaching at Hunter, she has taught at Sarah Lawrence
