Applying for Admission to Hunter College's Computer Science Department
The general guidelines we've included here are provided to assist prospective students in applying for admission to Hunter's Computer Science Program. For complete admission details, current deadlines, application forms and additional criteria, please visit Hunter's Admissions web site. And, don't forget to check our Majoring in Computer Science and Courses & Prerequisites pages for CS-specific criteria.
Hunter requires you to submit an admissions application, your official high school transcript (showing a minimum of 12 academic units taken), SAT or ACT scores and a $65.00 non-refundable application fee when you apply for admission. If you have a General Equivalency Diploma (GED), your GED test scores are also required. Applications, fees and documentation should be sent to the CUNY Application Processing Center. Contact Admissions at (212) 772-4490 or firstname.lastname@example.org for application processing details.
Freshman Candidate Criteria
Your admission will be considered based on your overall strength of academic preparation (min. 12 academic units), grades in individual subjects, overall high school average, and SAT or ACT scores. If you have a GED, your test scores may be eligible if accompanied by the required minimum of 12 high school academic units.
For Transfer Students
You're required to submit a transfer application, your official transcripts from each college attended (in addition to your high school transcript) and a $70.00 non-refundable application fee when you apply for transfer to Hunter. If you have a GED, your test scores are also required. To be considered for transfer, your cumulative gradepoint average must be between 2.3 and 2.4, depending on your academic history. Visit Hunter's Admissions web site for criteria details and forms.
For Students Seeking a Second Degree
If you're seeking a Computer Science degree in addition to a degree you've already received, the Hunter application process is the same as it is for our transfer students (briefly described above). Again, your cumulative grade point average should be between 2.3 and 2.4, depending on your academic history. Contact Hunter Admissions for details.
For Graduate Students
Though Hunter College doesn't currently offer an MA in Computer Science, the department participates in the Computer Science PhD Program through the CUNY Graduate Center. For further information, visit the CUNY CS PhD Program website, call them at (212) 817-8190, or use their online contact form.
