Prof. William Sakas assumes the seat of Department Chair on July 1 as Prof. Virginia Teller steps down.

Professor Virginia Teller, who has served Hunter's Computer Science Department for more than three decades, has announced her stepping down from her position as Department Chair effective July1, 2013.  Under her stewardship as Chair, the Department has developed a more reasearch-oriented approach to undergraduate education.  She has also tirelessly sought to include underrepresented in the computational sciences.

Associate Professor William Sakas obtained his Ph.D. in Computer Science from CUNY's Graduate School and University Center.  He completed his undergraduate education at Harvard University, earning a A.B. degree in Economics.  His current research is focused on building computational models of adult and child language use and acquisition.  Having joined the Computer Science Department as an Adjunct LEcturer in 1994, he has almost a 20-year history at Hunter.  He looks forward to carrying the torch of exemplarary academic leadership during his tenure as Chair.
