Junior Kyra Abbu to Oscar Health & MIT

Kyra Abbu

Looking for a career path? Junior Kyra Alyssa Abbu shows us all the way. She began in 2019 as an intern at the NYC Department of Health and Mental Hygiene. After 3 weeks in 2020 at Break Through Tech - New York, she spent the summer as a Data Science Intern at a health technology startup. Abbu has already co-authored two papers: one with our own Professor Lei Xie on deep learning for drug discovery and the other with Professor Karen Florez of the CUNY Graduate School of Public Health and Health Policy on access to mental health services in the Latino/Hispanic population. After a week last January at MIT's Quantitative Methods Workshop, Abbu is now a McNulty Scholar and will start work this fall in Professor Josh McDermott's MIT lab on treatments to improve hearing impairment. Her latest news? She is featured on Break Through Tech's website and she will be a Technical Product Manager Intern at Oscar Health this summer.
