Prof. Sarah Ita Levitan

Prof. Sarah Ita Levitan with Prof. Julia Hirschberg of Columbia University were awarded a seed grant from the Brown Institute for Media Innovation, a collaboration between Stanford University’s School of Engineering and Columbia Journalism School.  The grant, "The Automatic Identification of Online Harassment of Women Journalists" will develop methods to identify abusive and hateful speech targeting female journalists on social media.

Dr. Levitan joins Hunter as Assistant Professor in the Department of Computer Science in September 2020. Her research interests are in spoken language processing, which aims to teach computers to understand human speech.
