Team from Hunter has paper accepted at ICSE 2021

Prof. Khatchadourian

A team of researchers from Hunter College's Computer Science Department, lead by Profs. Khatchadourian and Raja, have a paper accepted to the main technical research track at the ACM/IEEE 2021 International Conference on Software Engineering (ICSE). ICSE is the premier software engineering conference. Since 1975, ICSE provides a forum where researchers, practitioners, and educators gather together to present and discuss the most recent innovations, trends, experiences and issues in the field of software engineering. The paper, entitled “An empirical study of refactorings and technical debt in Machine Learning systems,” investigates how Machine Learning systems uniquely evolve over time, the challenges developers and data scientists face in maintaining long-lived Machine Learning systems, and how tools and methodologies can be devised to combat these challenges. The team consisted of a doctoral student from The Graduate Center, CUNY and two undergraduate students from Hunter!
Raffi Khatchadourian is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Computer Science at Hunter College and a member of the Doctoral Faculty of The Graduate School and University Center’s Ph.D. Program in Computer Science of the City University of New York (CUNY). His current research interests lie at the intersection of software engineering, programming languages, and systems. He is originally from Edison, NJ, enjoys walking the streets of Brooklyn, and is an avid Knicks, Mets, and Jets sports fan.
An internationally recognized expert in metareasoning in artificial intelligence, Professor Raja also focuses on machine learning for clinical informatics and game theory for traffic network optimization. Having taught courses on blockchain, distributed artificial intelligence, application development, and engineering design, she has led classes that feature collaborative work with academic medical centers. In 2019, Crain’s New York Business named Professor Raja one of the “Notable Women in Tech” in the Greater New York City area.
