David Capps, Associate Professor

David Capps, Associate Professor and Assistant Director of Dance Program

David Capps recently returned to New York City to join the faculty of Hunter College, after 13 years at the University of Colorado/Boulder. He danced, taught and choreographed in New York City 1978-93, performing with a variety of choreographers, including David Gordon, Gus Solomons, Jr., Bertram Ross, Clarice Marshall, and, for ten years, Elise Long/Spoke the Hub Dancing.

His choreography has appeared in New York at Danspace at St. Mark’s Church, the 92ndStreet Y, the Gowanus Arts Exchange, the Cunningham Studio, the Living Room and in Prospect Park, and abroad in Italy, Costa Rica and Switzerland. In Colorado, he presented work at the Changing Scene, the Space for Dance, the University of Colorado, the Denver Center for the Performing Arts and other venues in the Denver metropolitan region and around the state. He received the Colorado Federation of the Arts Innovation Award in 1994. He has received commissions from Musique des Lumieres (Switzerland), The Dance Experience (Switzerland), Toby Hankin, Polly Motley, MA Dance, the Boulder Ballet, Mary Wohl-Hahn, the University of Iowa, Sam Houston State University and the University of Kansas.

He has taught full-length courses at New York University School of the Arts, the 92nd Street Y, and several training centers in Brooklyn; and master classes or workshops at numerous colleges and universities in the US, and at festivals in Italy and San Jose, Costa Rica
