Program I
56-62 Credits
Students who already hold a BA/BS degree and enter without certification in childhood education, grades 1-6 (or elementary education PreK-6) would take an extended course of study that leads to certification in both childhood education and childhood special education.

Program II
37-43 Credits
Students who enter the special education program with initial/provisional certification in childhood education grades 1-6 or elementary education PreK-6 and who subsequently complete the master's degree will meet the education requirements for NYS professional teacher certification in both childhood education and childhood special education.

Note that students who enter the program with a NYS Teacher Certification in childhood or elementary education do not need to take the 19 credits of childhood education.
