Meet with an advisor to plan your study abroad experience!

If you are thinking about studying abroad please see the following steps to get you started on your journey! We are continuing to offer advising during our scheduled advising hours via Skype while the Office of Education Abroad operates remotely.

  1. Search our programs and familiarize yourself with the options you have: Hunter programs and exchanges, CUNY programs, affiliated programs (SUNY, CIEE, CISabroad, IES Abroad, and USAC).
  2. Attend a Study Abroad 101 information session. We will go over program options, the application process, financial aid/scholarship questions, and many other general questions to help get you started on your study abroad journey. You can sign up for a 101 information session on our EVENTS AND STUDY ABROAD 101 page. If Study Abroad 101 Infomation Sessions are not available, students should watch our video: Planning for Study Abroad at Hunter College before scheduling an advising appointment.  Advising appointments should not be started until you have attended a 101 session or watched the video!
  3. Meet with an advisor on Skype. If you are new to Skype, you can download and create a new account for free.

The Office of Education Abroad (1447E) has advising hours on:
    Mondays: 12:45pm-2:45pm
    Tuesdays: 10:30am-12:00pm, 1:00pm-3:00pm
    Thursdays: 10:00am-12:00pm, 1:00pm-3:00pm
    Fridays: 11:00am-3:00pm

Talking to a study abroad advisor is a recommended although, not essential part of the process. We can help guide you, answer questions, and together, make sure you'll stay on track with your graduation requirements when you're abroad.

Students interested in any of Hunter's university EXCHANGES must schedule an advisor appointment.

Questions to answer to bring to advising appointment:

  • What do you hope to gain from studying abroad in relation to your academic, personal, or career goals?
  • What degree requirements do you need to fulfill during the time you are abroad?
  • Is there a foreign language you are interested in learning or improving?
  • What kind of financial aid or scholarships are available?
  • What level of pre-departure and on-site support do you want or need?
  • Do you want to live in a city, suburb, or rural area?
  • What kind of housing do you prefer-student housing, homestay, or independent housing?
  • Do you want to focus on one subject intensively or take a variety of courses?
  • What internships, excursions, or other opportunities do you want the program to offer?

If you realize after you make your appointment that you are unable to attend, please log back in to the system to cancel the appointment. This will allow another student to make an appointment at that time. Failure to do so will jeopardize your ability to make a future appointment.
