Eligibility Requirements

Eligibility is limited to those students who:

  • are at least 18 years old at the time of application.
  • will have completed at least two semesters of college-level study (with a minimum of 6 completed credits at the time of application).
  • possess a minimum 2.5 cumulative GPA on a 4.0 scale.
  • will be applying credits earned toward a degree.
  • are in good academic standing from the time of application until the start of their term abroad; students on academic warning are not eligible to participate.
  • are in good disciplinary standing at the start of their term abroad.
  • have a valid passport. We require a copy of your valid passport before you go abroad. If you are in the process of applying for or rewewing your passport, you may begin your application; however, you must be prepared to submit a scan of your new passport as soon as you receive it.

Students will be selected mainly on the basis of their intellectual resolve and emotional maturity.

GPA and credit requirements may vary according to program requirements. Please check the requirements for your program of interest.

Please inquire with the Office of Education Abroad before submitting an application if this is your FIRST or LAST semester at Hunter as special requirements may apply. We do not recommend that students study abroad in their final semester.

 

Summer programs: Applications are due by mid-March.

Winter programs: Applications are due by October.

Deadlines vary for Hunter semester and non-Hunter programs.

Be sure to start your application early, so that you allow enough time to complete all the required and conditionally required questions prior to the deadline for your program.

Our office collaborates closely with the Office of AccessABILITY to make sure that Hunter Students with Disabilities receive reasonable accommodations necessary while studying abroad. Therefore, to ensure accommodations, all students with disabilities /medical conditions are advised to meet with the Office of AccessABILITY located in E1214 to receive a letter of accommodation which will help us to verify their need and to plan accordingly. If you receive financial aid and/or scholarships at Hunter, it is your responsibility to speak with a financial aid advisor and/or your scholarship provider to discuss how your study abroad may affect your financial aid/scholarships.

The principal purpose for information requested on the application is to determine eligibility for study abroad. College policy authorizes maintenance of this information. Furnishing all information required on the application form is mandatory. Failure to provide such information may delay or even prevent your study abroad process. You have the right to review, in accordance with college policy, personal information maintained about you by contacting the office of record.
