Program Fee

$2,750 (estimate) includes housing, some meals, in-country transportation, entrance tickets to the sites and health insurance. Airfare not included.

Payment Schedule

$350 due with application. Balance due April 30. All payments by certified checks or money orders (no cash, personal checks or credit cards).

Program Description

A cultural, historical, and literary study of the various cultures that preceded the Roman conquest of Italy and the ways in which they influenced Roman civilization.  In addition to exploring the monuments and museums of Rome, we will visit archaeological sites in Naples, Pompeii and Herculaneum, and the Greek cities of Sicily,   Professors Green and White will lecture on specific aspects of Roman culture, including religion, politics, education and family life. Students may register for 3 or 6 credits. They are required to write term papers upon return in order to receive a grade in the course. 

 

I - SCHEMATIC ITINERARY:

June 28 - Welcome to Italy!  Transfer on OWN to your Hotel in Rome (possibility to purchase space on the optional EAC scheduled transfers).  Lodging ON OWN at St. John's College's  residence at Collegio Leoniano, in Rome.  Full day at leisure in Rome for your own discovery. 
 
June 29 -  Full day at leisure in Rome 

 

June 30 - FD at leisure in Rome.

July 01 - FD at leisure in Rome.

July 02 - FD at leisure in Rome.

July 03 - FD at leisure in Rome.

July 04 - FD at leisure in Rome.

July 05 - Morning private transfer to FCO airport for your flight to Palermo.  Upon arrival in PMO airport, meet and greet with our EAC assistant and private transfer to your Hotel SAN PAOLO PALACE in Palermo.  Afternoon at leisure in Palermo.  Free for lunch.  Dinner set up at the Hotel tonight.  O/n in Palermo. (B,D)

July 06 - FD at leisure in Palermo. Free for lunch and dinner.  o/n in Palermo. (B)

July 07 - Morning pick up at the Hotel for a private transfer to Agrigento (No EAC assistance).  En route, stop at the archeological sites of Segesta & Selinunte, for a tour ON YOUR OWN (EAC will only coordinate entrance tickets to both the sites of Segesta & Selinunte).  O/n in Agrigento at the Hotel DELLA VALLE  - (B)

July 08 - Morning enjoy a tour of Agrigento ON YOUR OWN (EAC will only coordinate entrance tickets to the archeological site).  Free for lunch and dinner. o/n Agrigento.  (B)

July 09 - Morning pick up at the Hotel for a private transfer to Siracusa (No EAC assistance).  En route, stop at the archeological site of Piazza Armerina for a tour ON YOUR OWN (EAC will only coordinate entrance tickets to the archeological park). Free for lunch and dinner. o/n Siracusa at the PARK Hotel (B)

July 10 - FD at leisure in Siracusa.   Free for lunch and dinner. Bus at disposal. o/n Siracusa.  (B)

July 11 - Morning pick up at the Hotel for a private transfer to Taormina (No EAC assistance).  En route, drive to the Mount Etna Volcano, for a fabulous panoramic view of Eastern Sicily.  Continue on to Taormina Letojani for overnight at Hotel VELLO D'ORO  - (B)

July 12 - FD at leisure in Taormina. Free for lunch and dinner.  Bus at disposal. Afternoon drive to the Palermo ferry docks to board the overnight ferry from Palermo to Naples.  Stop en route in Messina for a quick view of the straight, where the Italian Peninsula land mass starts right in front of you.  The site is very beautiful to see. (B)

July 13 – Breakfast on own aboard ferry.  Early morning arrival in Naples, private bus transfer to Sorrento. Free for lunch and dinner. o/n in Sorrento at the HOTEL LA MERIDIANA

July 14 - FD at leisure in Sorrento. Free for lunch and dinner. Bus at disposal. o/n Sorrento.  (B)

July 15 - Morning pick up at the Hotel for a private transfer to Naples.  Enjoy a half day guided tour of Naples & the archeological museum (w/ entrances).  Lunch on your own (lunch site will be reserved by EAC) and then return to Sorrento for afternoon on your own & o/n. (B)

July 16 - FD at leisure in Sorrento.   Free for lunch and dinner. o/n Sorrento.  (B)

July 17 - FD at leisure in Sorrento.   Free for lunch and dinner. o/n Sorrento.  (B)

July 18 - FD at leisure in Sorrento.   Free for lunch and dinner. o/n Sorrento.  (B)

July 19 - Morning pick up at Hotel for private transfer to Rome (No EAC assistance).  Afternoon at leisure in Rome.  O/n ON OWN at St. John's College in Rome

July 20 - FD at leisure in Rome. 

 

July 21 - FD at leisure in Rome.  

 

July 22 - Full day excursion to Ostia Antica, where you will enjoy a tour of the site ON YOUR OWN (EAC will only coordinate entrance tickets to the archeological park). Return to Rome in PM.  O/n in Rome

 

July 23 - FD at leisure in Rome. 

 

July 24 - Ciao Italia!  Transfer on OWN  from your Hotel in Rome to Rome airport for your flight back home.(B)
