Qasid Virtual Arabic Summer 2020

The Office of Education Abroad is pleased to offer the opportunity for virtual Arabic language study in collaboration with our longtime partner, Qasid Arabic Institute. Students may earn Hunter credit towards their degree by studying Arabic online this summer.

All students must:

  1. Complete the following form: https://ww3.hunter.cuny.edu/edabroad/view.php?id=33118
  2. Submit course approval/registration information following the instructions for Hunter, other CUNY, or non-degree (non-CUNY) students below.

Deadline: June 5, 2020

Course Approval and Registration for Hunter College Students:

Follow these steps if you are currently matriculated at Hunter College. All emails must come from your @myHunter email address. Electronic approvals are only valid if academic email addresses are used.

  • Step 1: Email Professor Stone (cst@hunter.cuny.edu) and cc Farryl Last (fl61@hunter.cuny.edu), subject line: Qasid Virtual Arabic Summer 2020 Course Approval. Professor Stone will then reply to this email stating the Hunter equivalent course code(s) and number of credits you will receive at Hunter.
  • Step 2: Forward this approval email to your assigned advisor (keeping fl61@hunter.cuny.edu copied) so they can determine if the Hunter equivalent course(s) are applicable to your degree. Your assigned advisor should state in a reply email whether or not each Hunter equivalent course(s) is applicable to your degree.

The Office of Education Abroad will then register you for placeholder (STABD) courses at Hunter.

Course Approval and Registration for Other CUNY Students:

Follow these steps if you are currently matriculated at any other CUNY College. All emails must come from your academic email address.

  • Step 2: Submit an ePermit via CUNYfirst for 3 or 6 STABD credits, matching the number of credits you will receive at Hunter:
  1. Go to your Student Center and select ePermit from the drop-down menu there. Choose the term and select "add ePermit." The "add ePermit" option will allow you to search for STABD credits. The option to add ePermit with equivalent courses will not, so make sure you select "add ePermit."
  2. Select Hunter College as the host campus. Make sure to request the number of credits you are taking as STABD credits at both your home campus (the CUNY you attend) and the host campus, Hunter College.
  3. You must submit the ePermit for STABD credits, NOT for a specific academic course code. In other words, DO NOT submit the ePermit for Arabic courses. This will not be approved!
  4. Check the status of your ePermit to confirm that it has been processed and approved. You can do this by following the above steps, and then searching ePermit instead of adding. Do not assume your ePermit registration is complete simply because you submitted it!

The Office of Education Abroad will then register you for placeholder (STABD) courses at Hunter once your ePermit has been approved at both your home CUNY and at Hunter.

Course Approval and Registration for Non-Degree Students:

Follow these steps if you are currently matriculated at a non-CUNY College. All emails must come from your academic email address.

  • Step 2: Email Farryl Last (fl61@hunter.cuny.edu) requesting instructions to complete your application to Hunter College as a non-degree students. All non-CUNY students must first be admitted as non-degree students at Hunter before they will be able to receive credit.

The Office of Education Abroad will then register you for placeholder (STABD) courses at Hunter. After completing the program, you will be able to receive a Hunter College transcript with the Arabic courses you had approved.

Grades: You will only receive credits for a course if the converted grade is C or above. Letter grades will appear on your Hunter transcript, but will not count towards the Hunter GPA. If grades convert to below C (C- to F), they will appear on your Hunter transcript as F. Courses taken as Pass/Fail will not transfer.
