For the past 10 years, Warsaw has been the site of the Jewish Culture Festival: Singer's Warsaw, organized by the Shalom Foundation and the Jewish Theatre of Warsaw. The annual festival of music, theatre, film, literature, and visual arts celebrates the world vividly described by Isaac Bashevis Singer, Polish-born Jewish-American author and a 1978 Nobel Prize winner.

Singer's Warsaw Festival

This year, Hunter College joins forces with the Festival to provide CUNY students with the pportunity to study this lost world by following in the footsteps of the writer, from his birthplace of Leoncin, through Bilgoraj, Radzymin and Warsaw, where he lived before immigrating to New York in1935. Students will study selected works Singer, in the context of his life experienec and analyze his place in Yiddish literature of the 19th and 20th Centuries.
