COVID 19 & Study Abroad Updates

In light of continued concerns over student health and safety, persistent travel restrictions, and countries’ evolving entry requirements due to the COVID-19 pandemic, international student travel for academic credit (study abroad) for winter and spring 2021 has been suspended. A phased restart of study abroad programming will be announced by CUNY with the approval of New York State as soon as conditions permit. In the meantime, international travel in CUNY and non-CUNY study abroad programs is discouraged. Please know that pursuing any other types of programs is a private undertaking and is not eligible for CUNY’s international travel insurance or credit.

CUNY Policy on International and Domestic Travel During the Pandemic

CUNY’s policy on domestic and international travel during the pandemic is posted here, with further details in CUNY’s Academic Continuity Guidance to campuses. Any programs that would be eligible for a travel waiver would need to be ‚Äč CDC THN level 2.

Virtual Study Abroad

All Hunter students applying to study abroad or participate in any virtual study abroad program, regardless of program type, must first contact the Office of Education Abroad. See the CONTACTS tab.

Summer 2021

The Office of Education Abroad is finalizing its program portfolio for Summer 2021. Please note not all programs may be able to run this summer. A final list of summer offerings will be available in the coming months. Check our website for further information.

Pura Vida

The Hunter Office of Education Abroad is here to support international education opportunities for students by providing access to quality study abroad opportunities that engage students with the local environment through coursework, internships, and community service learning opportunities.

Our staff can guide students and faculty to identify an international experience that fits their goals and interests.

Visit our website and choose from a variety of study abroad options, including Hunter faculty led, CUNY-wide sponsored programs, university exchanges, and approved provider programs.

Please keep in mind, all students applying to study abroad, whether through a Hunter program or not, MUST apply to the Office of Education Abroad first for approval.  See our Eligibility Requirements for more information.

The first step to study abroad is to attend a  Study Abroad 101, information session.  101 Sessions are designed to give students an overview of studying abroad through Hunter College, the various program types (winter, summer, semester, Hunter faculty led, provider, or exchange etc.), understanding the financial resources (aid, scholarships etc.), and getting started on an applicationSign up here !

In the meantime, take time to watch the Planning to Study Abroad video and get answers to many of the questions about what, where, and how!
