Welcome to the the Office of Education Abroad at Hunter College

We understand you may have questions about how the spread of the novel coronavirus, COVID-19, may impact your plans to study abroad. As per the CUNY Chancellors Guidance on Academic Continuity, Summer 2020 and Fall 2020 study abroad programs for CUNY (Hunter) students have been suspended. This means:

  • All Hunter College-run and -approved Summer 2020 and Fall 2020 programs will not be offered this summer and fall.
  • Applications for non-Hunter College Summer 2020 or Fall 2020 study abroad programs will not be processed or approved.
  • Credits earned on non-CUNY study abroad programs this summer and fall will not be accepted by the University.

As of now, Winter 2021 and Spring 2021 programs will be running. Applications will open this summer. Please check back here for updates. All Hunter students applying to study abroad in winter or spring 2021, regardless of program type, must first complete a Hunter Education Abroad application.

We are continuing to advise students online! If you'd like to speak with an advisor about studying abroad, you can make an appointment here.

We know that the uncertainty around COVID-19 (coronavirus) and related travel restrictions is causing anxiety for students who have been planning to study abroad. We will reach out to all students that have already applied to programs separately by email and we will keep our website updated with information on the status of future programs and applications as it develops, so please check back often!

We are here to support international education opportunities for students at Hunter College by providing access to quality study abroad opportunities that engage students with the local environment through coursework, internships, and service learning opportunities.

Our staff can guide students and faculty to identify an international experience that fits their goals and interests.

Visit our website and choose from hundreds of study abroad options, including Hunter faculty led, CUNY-wide sponsored programs, university exchanges, and approved provider programs.

Please keep in mind, all students applying to study abroad, whether through a Hunter program or not, MUST apply to the Office of Education Abroad first for approval.  See our Eligibility Requirements for more information.

The first step to study abroad is to attend a  Study Abroad 101, information session.  101 Sessions are designed to give students an overview of studying abroad through Hunter College, the present various program types (winter, summer, semester, Hunter faculty led, provider, or exchange etc.), understanding the financial resources (aid, scholarships etc.), and getting started on an applicationSign up here !

In the meantime, take time to watch the Planning to Study Abroad video and get answers to many of the questions about what, where, and how!
