Universal Waste and Recycling
The Office of Environmental Health and Safety and Facilities Management and Planning work together to assist the campus with sustainability and recycling efforts. These programs are designed to reduce waste costs and promote resource management. Some of the services used to accomplish these efforts are: battery recycling, fluorescent bulb recycling, energy and resource saving modifications, and electronic waste recycling.
The following items are collected at all Hunter Campuses:
Electronics |
If the device contains a CUNY tag, contact Property Management to remove from college inventory before disposal. Contact ICIT to remove hard drive memory. Contact Facilities to remove electronic waste. |
Batteries |
There are battery collection tubes located throughtout the College. Contact Facilities for tube locations or for large battery pickups. |
Intact Mercury Containing Devices |
Mercury contained in glass devices is considered Universal Waste. Please contact EHS for pickup of these devices. Double bag these items and place in secure area for pickup. |
Ink Cartridges |
Most ink cartridge manufacturers provide a prepaid return service label for used ink cartridges. If this is not available, search online for sites such as Ink Technologies, who provide free ink cartridge recycling. |
