ELT Institute Certificate

The ELT Institute Certificate in TEFL serves as an excellent first step for those with little teaching experience who wish to teach abroad or work with English Language Learners in Adult, Schools, and Community programs. To teach at university level in the United States, most practitioners hold MA degrees in TESOL.

Our certificate runs 130 hours. This includes 70 hours of class meetings at Hunter College, and 60 hours on-line independent study (with faculty facilitation) using selected Teacher Development Interactive modules. 10 hours of classroom observation and supervised student teaching is included during the fall and spring semesters. Peer teaching is included during the summer and winter programs.

Certificate classes are offered intensively during January and August. TDI modules may be taken before or after classes at Hunter College. Certificate classes will also be offered on a part-time basis in the fall and spring on a weekend  schedule.

ELT Institute partners with Via Lingua Schools (see Our Partners). Those who complete the ELT Institute Certificate program may also obtain a Via Lingua Certificate with access to their job placement program in Europe and Asia.
