Sonya Collins received her BA in Creative Writing from the CUNY Baccalaureate program in 1998. After teaching English abroad in Brazil for one year, she returned to NY to earn an MFA in Creative Writing with a concentration in Fiction at New School University (2003), where she was a teaching fellow. She has lectured at Brown University's Department of Portuguese and Brazilian Studies and has translated Brazilian screenplays and subtitled Brazilian films. She started teaching English 120 at Hunter in 2002.
