Marlene Villalobos Hennessy received her Ph.D. in English and Comparative
Literature from Columbia University in 2001.
Her areas of interest include Old and Middle English Literature, Medieval
Women, Medieval Manuscripts and the History of the Book, and Medieval
Religious Culture. She teaches courses on Chaucer, Early British Literature,
and the History of the English Language, among others. She is currently
working on a book-length project entitled Speaking Crucifixes:
Aspects of Passion Devotion in Late Medieval England. This study
explores the place of images and image-making in English devotional
literature and manuscript art during the later Middle Ages.
Her recent publications include articles in Mediaeval Studies,
Viator: Medieval and Renaissance Studies, and the Journal
of the Early Book Society. In 2003-2004 she was an Andrew W.
Mellon Post-Doctoral Fellow at the Pontifical Institute of Mediaeval
Studies, Toronto.
