The Departmental Honors program is designed for students who are interested in a more intensive and rigorous course of study. To qualify for Honors, students must fulfill two additional requirements within the major: the Honors Seminar (ENGL 494) and the Honors Essay, which is usually written in relation to the Honors Seminar under the supervision of the instructor teaching the course. A student who completes these requirements successfully and achieves a GPA in major courses of at least 3.5 and a cumulative GPA of at least 2.8 at the time of graduation will be awarded Departmental Honors.
