Entrance Counseling

Entrance counseling is required in order to borrow a loan.

Every student who wishes to apply for a Federal Direct Loan must be provided with entrance counseling information. At Hunter College, students may complete the entrance counseling requirement online at:

https://www.dlssonline.com/borrower/EntrCounselingStart.do

Students are required to read through all of the information provided on the Direct Loan Entrance Counseling website and then complete an online quiz to ensure comprehension of the entrance counseling information. If all questions are answered correctly, the student must print out a Borrower's Statement of Rights and Responsibilities from the website and return the signed statement to the Office of Financial Aid (Rm. 241N) with the completed Federal Direct Loan Request form.

The entrance counseling requirement can be completed on any PC with an attached printer. If you do not have access to a PC and/or printer, you may use any one of the Hunter College facilities listed here:

The entrance counseling requirement for the Federal Direct Loan program only needs to be completed once while in attendance at Hunter College; therefore, students who borrow in subsequent years need not repeat the entrance counseling requirement.
