THE APPLICATION PROCESS _
STEP 1: FILE A FAFSA
Every student who wants to apply for William D. Ford Federal Direct Loans at the City University of New York (CUNY) must first file a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). You can go to www.FAFSA.ed.gov to file your application. If Hunter College was on of the colleges listed on the FAFSA by the student to receive the information, the Office of Financial Aid at Hunter College receives an electronic record of the FAFSA application.
Some students who file a FAFSA will have their application selected for verification by the U.S. Department of Education. This review process is called VERIFICATION. These individuals must provide copies of income documentation and household information to the Oasis Office located in Room 217North. Some students who file a FAFSA may also have their application selected for review by us if the application information seems incorrect or inconsistent. These individuals must review and correct their application information. The application information on the student’s FAFSA must be complete and correct before the student can submit the Direct Loan request.
