Admission Requirements:
You must meet the following minimum requirements in order to be
considered for admission. Meeting these minimum requirements does not
guarantee acceptance to the program.

A bachelor’s degree from a regionally
accredited institution comparable in standard and content to a
bachelor’s degree from Hunter College.

Submit a creative writing manuscript for the specific genre you are applying into: Poetry (up to 10 pages of poetry), Fiction (20-25 pages of a short story, the start of a novel), Non-Fiction (no more than 20 pages of non-fiction prose). Please note: all pages you send must be doubled-spaced and in a 12 point font. (For further detailed information, please contact the graduate advisor).

Two letters of recommendation from appropriate academic or professional references.

A statement of purpose of
approximately 500 words describing your objectives in undertaking
graduate study, the relationship to your creative work, literary influences and why the MFA would be beneficial to your writing career.
- For Non-Fiction applicants only: write a 500 word proposal outlining your memoir idea.
