Community Environmental Monitoring - El Puente Bucket Brigade

In the Spring of 2003, the COEH partnered with Bucket BrigadeEl Puente de Williamsburg to monitor air quality in the Williamsburg and Bushwick neighborhoods of Brooklyn. We started a Bucket Brigade or a group of community residents that were trained to take air samples using EPA approved grab sampling methods.

The Bucket samplers use a 5 gallon plastic bucket modified to include a Tevlar sampling bag inside and sealed on the top with air valves.

Bucket Brigade El Puente is a community learning and development institution in the predominantly Latino "Southside" of Williamsburg, Brooklyn. Founded in 1982, El Puente runs programs in health, education and the arts to promote holistic youth and community development for democracy, healing and other human rights, with community learning at the core. In 1993, El Puente Academy for Peace and Justice was founded Bucket Brigadeas a community-controlled public high school for human rights and community development.
