Environmental Training Program for Minorities

This project aimed to educate young people of color considering jobs in trade unions and environmental firms about the environmental hazards they may encounter and how to recognize, evaluate, and control exposure to those same hazards. To teach basic life skills, literacy skills, and job skills that will enable these youth to compete in a changing labor market.

Through the NJ/NY Hazardous Materials Worker Training Center Consortium, the COEH has helped train hundreds of students in environmental monitoring policies and practices conducting the 16-Hour Environmental Monitoring Training Courses for both the Brownfields Minority Worker Educational Training Program and the Minority Worker Educational Training Program (both now known as BuildingWorks) held at both the Carpenters' Union in downtown Manhattan presently and the Blake House in Newark, New Jersey previously.

In 2008-2009, the COEH trained thirty-one (31) students from the BuildingWorks Program in the 16-Hour Environmental Monitoring Training Course held at the Carpenters' Union in downtown Manhattan.
