Join us for a conversation and sweet treats with our Fall Speaker on Tuesday, December 5th at 9pm in Brookdale's East Lounge. Our distinguished guest will be Georgiana Pickett.

Georgiana Pickett became the Executive Director of the Baryshnikov Arts Center in August 2011. The Baryshnikov Arts Center (BAC) was established in 2005 to house the core activities of the Baryshnikov Dance Foundation, incorporated in 1979 by Mikhail Baryshnikov. BAC is a creative laboratory, meeting place, and performance space for a vibrant community of artists from around the world. BAC’s core programs are residencies designed to give performing artists space and resources to develop new ideas and work; and the presentation of live performance. Additionally, BAC is dedicated to building audiences for the arts by presenting contemporary, innovative work at low or no cost to the general public. Located in the developing Hudson Yards neighborhood on the far west side of Manhattan, BAC comprises a total of 24,000 square feet, including four column-free studios, the 136-seat Howard Gilman Performance Space and the 238-seat Jerome Robbins Theater. Audiences representing a wide demographic and artists across disciplines participate in BAC programs. Prior to joining the BAC team, Georgiana had already been a steadfast contributor to the arts environment on local, national and international levels for 20 years. After entering the field through the visual arts in her hometown of Buffalo, New York, Georgiana moved to Miami where she became the Artistic Director at Miami-Dade College’s globally recognized Cultural Affairs Department. Georgiana served at Miami-Dade College for 6 years where she led an internationally significant presenting program focused on Latin America and The Caribbean.

While producing the Department’s annual season of public events, she simultaneously deepened the program’s commitment to young people and greatly expanded a residency program that placed world-renowned artists in the Miami public school system for long-term, in-depth residencies. From Miami-Dade, Georgina moved to New York City and spent her first 2 years in NY as an arts management consultant serving artists and arts organizations in the areas of project and resource development, programming, production and research. Some of her clients included the Doris Duke Charitable Foundation, The Harlem Arts Alliance, The August Wilson Center for African American Culture and many individual artists. She then became the Executive Director of 651 ARTS. Based in the BAM Harvey Theater, 651 ARTS is an internationally recognized presenter and producer of contemporary performing arts from the African Diaspora.

Georgiana built upon 651 ARTS’ 23-year legacy of presenting an annual season of contemporary dance, theater, and music events in venues throughout Brooklyn, as well as providing services and resources for artists to develop new work.

Georgiana’s perspectives and expertise are consistently sought out by her field and she has served regularly as a panelist, advisor, speaker and/or member for organizations such as The National Dance Project, The Mid-Atlantic Arts Foundation, the Ford Foundation, The Gerbode Foundation, The Tides Foundation, The National Endowment for the Arts, the Department of Cultural Affairs for Miami-Dade County, The Doris Duke Charitable Foundation, Chamber Music America, the New York State Council on the Arts, the National Performance Network, the Downtown Brooklyn Arts Alliance and the New York Bessie’s Committee. Georgiana has been a board member for The Association of Performing Arts Presenters, CEPA Gallery, Tigertail Productions and has served as a member of the Dean’s Advisory Council of the State University of New York at Buffalo, her alma mater. She is currently a member of the Distinguished Mentors Council for Composers Now.
