Macaulay Honors College combines the supportive environment of a small liberal arts college with the programs and resources of a leading urban research university, plus the cultural, scientific, business, and not-for-profit opportunities of New York City.
All Honors College students, designated as "University Scholars", receive a full tuition scholarship and a state-of-the-art laptop computer. All University Scholars are encouraged to access the $7500 Opportunities Fund to expand their learning through travel, study abroad, and internships. The unique Cultural Passport enables Honors College students free or reduced admission to most of New York City's cultural landmarks and institutions. In addition, prior to each semester, Honors College students are permitted to register earlier than other Hunter students, enhancing their chances of "getting those courses they want".
Beginning with the class of 2015 (those who begin to matriculate in the fall of 2011), students accepted to the Macaulay Honors College at Hunter College will have the option of a free Brookdale Residence Hall room for up to two years, excluding summers. This option for a free room for two years applies only to the fall and spring terms. Students will have dorm access for their third and fourth years, but they will be charged for the room at the Brookdale Residence Hall. The Director of Financial Aid will provide a list of loans to eligible students who are not able to pay for the dorm room in their third and fourth years.
This arrangement is subject to continued availability of the Brookdale Residence Hall.
Macaulay Honors College students at Hunter College utilize New York City as an extension of their campus. This is especially evident during the first four semesters when University Scholars participate in four interdisciplinary seminars, which combine traditional scholarly endeavors with hands-on experiences to enhance their understanding of the people and institutions of New York.
A supportive and integrated academic advising system is one of the many unique features of the Honors College. Macaulay advisors are always available to help each student customize his/her choices of curriculum, internships, and study abroad; the same advisor accompanies the student throughout the undergraduate years.
The Instructional Technology Fellows Program is another innovative Honors College support tool. Designated tech fellows are available in person in the Honors lounge or by email to help and advise any student needing technological support and assistance.
Macaulay Honors College combines the close-knit collaborative community of a small college with the vast intellectual resources of a global research university. The best and the brightest at one of the nation's leading public universities, Macaulay students are designated "University Scholars". Students take advantage of CUNY's diverse range of academic programs in an engaging and supportive environment. MHC students continuously engage the city of New York as their classroom, their laboratory, their campus and their home.
