Craig Harwood

Director of the Macaulay Honors College at Hunter College

 Craig Harwood is a musicologist, musician and educator with extensive experience in many aspects of student and academic affairs.  He earned a BA in music from Queens College and a PhD in music theory from Yale University.  As an undergraduate, he played tuba in the Queens College Orchestra and wrote for the school newspaper.  After earning his doctorate, Dr. Harwood was an Andrew W. Mellon Post Doctoral Fellow at Amherst College where he taught music theory and directed Bluegrass and Klezmer student music ensembles.

Prior to joining Hunter, Dr. Harwood was the Dean of Davenport College at Yale University for six years.  In this position he served as primary advisor to 480 students. He worked with students who pursued grants, fellowships and graduate education, organized events and speaker series and promoted extra-curricular experiences including internships, volunteer work and study-abroad activities.

As Director of the Macaulay Honors College at Hunter, Dr. Harwood works closely with the Hunter College and Macaulay/CUNY communities to provide engaging academic, co-curricular and extra-curricular experiences. 

In his spare time, Dr. Harwood can be found playing bluegrass mandolin or spending time with his wife and two children in Tompkins Square Park.
