Are you in Bio 100? Want to make sure that you're on top of the material?
Then come to the Bio 100 Study Sessions, Wednesdays at 1 PM and 4 PM in the Lounge.
Stop by and review lecture material, prepare for exams, and work with your classmates to master the course! Each session will be guided by students who have taken Bio 100 and know the material very, very well. No sign up necessary--just show up ready to learn!

DeWitt Wallace Youth Travel Grant Eligibility Notice
Students participating in an honors study abroad program may be eligible for a DeWitt Wallace Youth Travel Grant of $1666.66. Applications for this grant are included in the honors study abroad program applications, now available for download on the Macaulay website.

Art and Technology Internship with New York Arts Project
Nina Yankowitz of the New York Arts Project is looking for an students who are interested in new technology, and/or art practice, or who might be studying Comparative Religion, to assist with obtaining digitally formatted texts of bibles and religious scriptures practiced around the globe. Education Internship with Beacon Center for Arts and Leadership
The Beacon Center for Arts and Leadership is an educational, recreational, and social service center serving the youth and families of Bushwick, Brooklyn. Six interns are needed to work as arts and physical activity specialists with Beacon after-school participants for the 2008-2009 school year. Woodhull Institute for Ethical Leadership Internships
The Woodhull Institute for Ethical Leadership is a not-for-profit educational organization that provides ethical leadership training and professional development for women. 6. A Really Cool Conference at Haaarvaahd....
The Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University is pleased to announce the Ninth Annual Harvard Public Policy and Leadership Conference (PPLC). The PPLC is for first and second year undergraduate students who are interested in pursuing careers in public service.
Conference eligibility is limited to college freshman and sophomores who are U.S. citizens or permanent residents.
The PPLC will take place February 19-22, 2009 at the Harvard Kennedy School in Cambridge, Massachusetts. The intensive three days of workshops, panels and lectures is designed for students who possess a commitment to public service, particularly those from historically under-served communities and people of color. Conference participants will learn about:
- Careers in public service
- Domestic and international policy issues
- Fellowship programs
- Summer public policy and international affairs institutes
- Graduate schools that offer programs in public policy
- Student life
Once accepted, conference participants will receive free travel and room and board. The application for the PPLC is due November 21, 2008. The online application can be viewed at the following website:

The Department of Commerce is offering paid internships for the upcoming summer as well as during the academic year for juniors and seniors in a diversity of disciplines including business, life, health and medical sciences, communications and graphic design, computer science, physical sciences, mathematics, and public policy.

11. Seniors
and Juniors: Are You Thinking About Honors in Your
Major????
If you are a senior you should know what the requirements are for completing Honors in your major. Remember that what constitutes "Honors" in a department is determined solely by the department. The Honors College cannot intervene on your behalf; the arrangements for satisfying Honors must be worked out between you and your department.
If you will be writing a thesis be sure to come to the THESIS WORKSHOP on Thursday, October 16 from 1-2 PM in the lounge.
Hear from a semi-reputable "expert" who will give you all sorts of useful and superfluous advice about formulating a guiding question, doing research, and writing an argument-based essay that will knock the socks off your department, graduate schools, potential employers, boyfriends, girlfriends, and strangers on the 6 train.
If you will be a senior next year it is not too early to begin thinking about what you're going to be doing to satisfy Honors in your major. If this means taking a course, look into when you'll take it and be best prepared for it. If this means working with a faculty member on a project, you should think about approaching at least one faculty member (and maybe more) with the goal of having a firm agreement from him or her to advise you. If you have a particularly ambitious project in mind, you might actually start on the preliminary work this year.
DO NOT WAIT UNTIL THE LAST MINUTE!!
If you have questions talk to your advisors--both in the Honors College and in your department.

14. Honors College Students...Abroad!
One of the coolest things about the Honors College is the opportunity to go abroad at some point (or points) during your four years here. Not sure where to go? Talk to some upper class students and ask them about their experiences. We encourage everyone to take at least one trip abroad during their time at Hunter, and you'll surely find at least one trip that meets your criteria for location, curriculum, timing, etc. For example, check out senior Jessica Lee's blog at www.journeysofjessica.blogspot.com.
If you're planning on going abroad please be sure to meet with your advisor as you make preparations.
15. Extraordinary Scholarship Opportunity for Seniors who are Immigrants and US Citizens or Permanent Residents
Hunter College is one of twenty-one colleges from around the country invited to participate in this scholarship program. Candidates must be full-time seniors who are graduating by summer 2009. Selected fellows will reflect a strong desire and a real capacity to achieve leadership roles in public service, culture and the arts, science and education and business. Their selection will based on the clarity of their plans, academic accomplishments, ability to motivate others, sense of civic responsibility and their ability to overcome obstacles. Selected fellows will receive a stipend of $10,000 per year for two years
Fellows may spend the funds on the following kinds of activities: graduate education, strategic travel related to professional development, participation in specific skill building training programs and internships.
Last year, Hunter College Honors student, Nataliya Binshteyn, was selected as a Merage Fellow!

An internship working with the Director of Public Policy on behalf of senior centers and community based organizations for senior services is available immediately. 19. New York State Senate Undergraduate Session Assistants Program
The program is intended to provide talented undergraduates with firsthand experience in New York State government at the legislative level. Session Assistants will work fulltime on assignment to a Senator. Approximately 30 Session Assistants will be selected from a wide variety of backgrounds, disciplines and campus experiences. The Senate awards a $4140 stipend to offset costs of living in Albany. Each applicant must be a US citizen; the program is intended for college juniors and seniors; exceptional sophomores may occasionally be selected. Deadline: October 31, 2008

20. Jacob K. Javits Fellowship Program – Deadline: October 3, 2008
The program provides financial assistance to students pursuing graduate study in the fields of the arts, humanities and the social sciences leading to a doctoral degree or a master’s degree in which that is the terminal degree offered. Successful candidates must demonstrate superior academic ability and achievement, show exceptional promise and have financial need. The award supports students for up to four years. Open to US citizens and permanent residents. Approximately 48 fellowships will be awarded.
