1.   Are You LOOKING FOR A JOB?????


The Center for Advanced Study in Education at the CUNY Graduate Center (365 Fifth Ave, Suite 3300) is looking for a student to do data entry for a National Science Foundation (NSF) funded project.

We anticipate 15 or more 8 hour days of work and a salary of $10-$12 an hour depending upon experience.

Although knowledge of SPSS or Excel is a plus, we are willing to train any interested student.  Days and hours are flexible and can be arranged around the individual’s school schedule.

The project is examining middle school student’s knowledge and interest in math after participating in an innovative math infused science curriculum.

Depending upon the interests of the student who is hired there will be opportunities to become more involved in the study.

There is an incredible event—PRESIDENTIAL LEADERSHIP SYMPOSIUM-- taking place on Thursday, March 15th at the Roosevelt House.

"Revisiting the Great Society: The Role of Government from FDR and LBJ to Today."  

There will be limited student seating as most of the seats will be taken by politicos and leaders from outside the college community.

6.  Business & Law: The Tale of a Corporate Lawyer

Join the Macaulay Business Club and the Macaulay Pre-Law Society for a panel on corporate/business law where college alumni (from places such as Duane Morris) will provide personal insight on the responsibilities and lessons of lawyers in the field.

7.  New programs launched by the Governor’s office to invest in the next generation of leaders and policy makers.

 The Empire State Fellows Program is for students that have already graduated as it requires at least three years professional experience.

This first class of 12 fellows will serve from September 2012 to September 2014 and will have the opportunity to serve as leaders in New York State government after completing the program.

8.   The Village Education Project 2012 Summer Volunteer Program

Teach in Ecuador this Summer. Help Fund a Student's High School Education.

The Village Education Project Summer Volunteer Program is seeking motivated college students to teach in rural Ecuador this summer.  Volunteers teach underprivileged seventh graders who cannot afford to attend high school and who come from impoverished primary schools unable to provide adequate preparation. Using a curriculum designed by Ecuadorian teachers and principals and American education students and
professors, volunteers are tasked with helping the seventh grade students get up to grade level.

9.  Another Interesting Volunteer Opp

Volunteer Opportunity Overview:
Covenant House Nineline is a program within Covenant House. It is a nation-wide, seven days a week crisis intervention hot-line. We primarily assist runaway youth and their families, however, we receive different types of callers who are in crisis. We provide assistance to a variation of calls such as: Domestic Violence, Suicide, Child Abuse, Shelter referrals, Substance/Alcohol Abuse, Mental Health issues and everything else in between. 

We are seeking volunteers to provide crisis intervention via telephone.  Volunteers should be empathetic, compassionate, non-judgmental and they should also have some knowledge using computers.

10.  Rhodes University is excited to hold the 2012 International School  – Environment, Development and Sustainability in Africa:   23 June to 19 July this year.

The multi-faceted study-abroad programme blends political, social, historical and economic theory with hands-on field experience.  Students will be exposed to some of the most knowledgeable lecturers and researchers at Rhodes University, and be able to experience the contexts, histories and challenges of contemporary Africa first-hand.

The programme is suitable for students at second or third year levels or current postgraduates in the fields of international studies/politics, economics, history, social science, environmental education, philosophy, anthropology, psychology, information systems, computer science, education, communications, and social development, as well as those considering post graduate research in Africa.

Participation is limited to 30 students.

The International School entails 60 contact hours, apart from time devoted to reading, writing and assessment.

The deadline for applications is Thursday 5 April 2012.

11.  Animal Behavior Field Course:  Bahamas Project Dolphin

This field course provides students with an exciting opportunity to gain hands-on field experience studying animal behavior while participating in a research project studying the social behavior of wild dolphins.

The course has two components: a lecture-workshop offered at Hunter College prior to the field course, and participation in a one-week field course run at our Bahamas field site.

To reserve your spot, a non-refundable deposit of $350 is due by April 15th.  Spots are held on a first-come, first-serve basis.  Payment in full is due by May 1st.

12.  Latino Youth for Higher Education Program

 Latino Youth for Higher Education Program is composed of Latino as well as other minority college students and professionals who have an interest in improving the quality of education for low-income students, especially those of Latino origin who are new to the country. The organization focuses on helping to promote college awareness and success to minority students.

 LYHEP Aids / Teacher's Assistants

 Description: The Teacher’s Assistant works one-on-one as well as in small groups of students to complete academic assignments.

 Tutoring and assisting teachers are common tasks. Other duties: Assist students in completing homework assignments in math, history, science, and other subject areas; Keep staff informed of student behavior; Help teachers achieve the goals for each class; Maintain accurate paperwork as requested by teacher and tutoring leads; Assist with general administrative duties such as assembling, copying and gathering materials; Act as a role model.

Ability to work effectively with youth ages 11 – 20.
Ability to work as a team-player.
Some knowledge in Spanish a plus.
Professional appearance appropriate to the position.
Cultural sensitivity and ability to work with newcomer students.
Previous instruction experience in a small group format or one-on-one is a plus.

Time commitment: TBD according to the intern’s schedule.

Internship position available NOW in the Revenue Management department of the renowned Waldorf-Astoria Hotel .
