Department of Classical and Oriental Studies
(Russian & Hebrew)

Departmental Honors Program

Division of Classics
Honors students in Classics may take CLA 491, which entails doing a research thesis with a mentor. The Department also offers tutorials for special majors. This semester there are tutorials in Greek reading including the Medea and, for Latin, Cicero. The department is famous for the individual attention it gives its best students, many of whom go on to academic careers in classics.

Hebrew Division
Opportunity for honors work is available through HEBR 491: individual study and research in Hebrew literature in consultation with staff member. An honors essay is required. HEBR 491 may be repeated as topics vary from semester to semester. Juniors and seniors only may be admitted to the honors courses with the permission of the division.

Division of Russian and Slavic Studies
Opportunity for honors work is available through RUSS 491 and, for advanced students, independent study for 1, 2, or 3 credits. Senior members of the faculty encourage and mentor students in their research projects.
