Departmental Honors Program
In
order to qualify for departmental honors, a student must have
achieved a 3.5 or better GPA in the major, and have successfully
completed the Honors Seminar (English 494) and an honors essay,
which is normally written in relation to the Honors Seminar and
under the supervision of the professor teaching that seminar.
For
a limited number of outstanding students, the department offers
a four-year BA/MA program in English. The program may be completed
in 125-128 credits of College work. Requirements include the ability
to read a foreign language, a comprehensive examination and a
Master’s essay. Graduate work begins in the junior year.
Interested students should consult the graduate advisor as early
as the freshman year.
Qualified students in their junior and senior year who are not
following the BA/MA option may also be admitted to graduate courses
with the approval of the graduate advisor.
