Department of Geography
Departmental Honors Program

To be graduated with departmental honors, a major in the geography or environmental studies program must be admitted to GEOG 490 or PGEOG 490 and have a 3.0 cumulative GPA and a 3.5 GPA in the major. A number of other courses also offer students the opportunity of undertaking individual research in geography, geology or environmental studies. Several courses also offer students the opportunity to study these subjects in the field. These are usually offered during intersession, summer session or on weekends. Special-topic field courses are also offered periodically. An internship program provides opportunities for qualified students to work in positions of responsibility in professional institutions while earning from 1 to 4 academic credits.

Highly qualified seniors may take graduate-level courses for credit toward the BA. Written permission is required.
