Department of Music
Departmental Honors Program

The Department of Music offers a 4-year dual BA/MA degree to unusually gifted students. The dual degree requires a minimum of 120 credits. Students should consult the undergraduate adviser as soon as possible to set up a curriculum appropriate to the individual background. The very top students may even include a doctoral course or two in the MA part of the BA/MA. Furthermore, advanced students in music are given the opportunity to take MA courses while they are undergraduates, even if they do not do the BA/MA program officially. The Department also provides opportunities for Independent Study and Honors Projects for those who want them.

Private lessons (in performance and composition) of courses serve students on every level. Performing groups organized on the basis of skill can accommodate the best students without slowing them down to the pace of the average. The Hunter Symphony is also a great attraction to top-of-the-line instrumentalists.
