of Political Science
Departmental Honors Program
Political
Science offers advanced seminars in each of the sub-fields of
Political Science: American Politics, Political Theory, Comparative
Politics, and International Politics. The Department sponsors
independent study honors projects with individual faculty members.
The Hunter Poll offers the Departments best students the
opportunity to do hands-on fieldwork with close faculty supervision.
Political Science also offers the seminar/internship program in
New York politics, semester-long Albany internships with the State
Senate, the State Assembly, and NYPIRG, summer Washington internships,
and placements that can be arranged through individual faculty
members with organizations in international relations. The Department
has a public leadership program that allows its top students to
take a seminar in preparation for residencies by leading public
officials. The most recent residencies have been by President
Bill Clinton, Governor Mario Cuomo, and Senator George Mitchell.
Recent
majors are currently in graduate school at Harvard, Yale, Columbia,
NYU, Chicago, Michigan, Virginia, American University, and Georgetown
as well as in top law schools. Most of these students took part
in one or more of the special programs, seminars, and honors projects
described above.
