Department of Sociology
Departmental Honors Program

In order to qualify for departmental honors, a student must have accumulated 21 credits (18 credits in some cases) in Sociology courses at Hunter, including one Sociology honors course (SOC 471, 472 Honors Independent Study, or SOC 473, 474 Honors Seminar). The student should also have maintained an overall GPA of at least 3.0 and a GPA of 3.5 or better in the major.

To apply for departmental honors students must fill out an application, available for download on the departmental web site or in the Sociology Advising Office (HW1619), and submit it along with their most recent transcript to the Sociology advisor during the semester of graduation. In addition, students with overall GPAs of 3.0 or better are eligible for membership in Alpha Kappa Delta, the International Sociology Honor Society. Information and applications are available on the departmental web site.
