The Macaulay Honors College (MHC) is a University-wide Honors program for outstanding students, the University Scholars, who are entering college for the first time.  University Scholars enroll at one of CUNY’s senior colleges, but have access to the variety of educational opportunities offered throughout the CUNY system.  The scholars receive generous financial support for four years, the opportunity to participate in unique interdisciplinary seminars, access to wide-ranging instructional technology, an Honors Lounge, mentors, internships and study abroad, as well as a Cultural Passport that provides entrée to the vast cultural resources of New York City.

At Hunter College, University Scholars take a minimum of 24 credits of Honors courses, comprising both the special interdisciplinary seminars during the freshman and sophomore years and Honors sections of regularly offered Arts & Sciences classes.  During their junior and senior years, honors students are expected to take advantage of departmental honors opportunities within their major, which may include a senior thesis or laboratory research project.  Hunter College University Scholars may also qualify to join the prestigious Thomas Hunter Honors Program (THHP) after they have earned between 24 and 60 credits.
