Audio Visual Tips

1. When shutting down one of our computer workstations, please go to the Start button and select “Shut Down.” Please do not just press the power button to turn it off, as that damages the unit and makes the next start up much longer than it needs to be. Never just pull the plug on anything

|
2. All the Overhead Projectors (OHP’s) that you would pick up at A.V. have built in spare bulbs. Please ask our staff to show you how to get to the spare bulbs. Since we lend several models of OHP’s, the
model that you pick up will tend to vary, as will how you get to the spare bulb.

3. If equipment doesn’t turn on, check the connection from the cart to the wall. Then check the connection of each piece of equipment to the power strip that is on the cart. That usually does the
trick.

4. When using one of our Liquid Crystal Display (LCD) panels, with the high power OHP’s that we include with them, please follow the instructions that we provide as to the order that things should be turned on and off. The heat from the high power OHP can damage the liquid crystals if the panel’s onboard fan is not turned on. The fan draws damaging heat away from the panel.

5. Each West Building lecture hall (415W, 511W, 615W & 714W) has an in-house phone that can be used to contact A.V. by simply dialing 4943. The same phone can reach Public Safety Security), at 4447.

|
6. All of our 27-inch video monitors (our TVs) can display closed-captioned text only if your tape has the closed-caption information already on it. If you have a student who has a
hearing issue, or if you simply want the text to reinforce the spoken words (say in an ESL class), then please ask us to set the monitor to display the closed-captions. If your tape was made before closed-captions were required it may not have the information already on it, thereby making display impossible. If you aren’t sure please bring the tape in to us and we can check it.
