How to Set up Apple Mail - Mac OS X 10.4 "Tiger"
These instructions are applicable to all Hunter people, students, staff and faculty, after 11/21/2009
Apple Mail is the default mail application on Mac OS X. These instructions are for Mac OS X 10.4 "Tiger". For other versions of Mac OS X see other documents in this folder: Email Tutorials.
When Apple Mail is first opened, you will be prompted with the following welcome screen. Click Continue to set up a new account.

If you are already using Apple Mail with another account, you may add your Hunter account by selecting File > Add Account.

On the General Information screen (below), select IMAP as the Account Type and enter a description, your full name, and your email address (NetID@hunter.cuny.edu or a valid alias).

On the Incoming Mail Server screen (below), enter ms1.hunter.cuny.edu as the server name. Then enter your NetID and password.
If you are prompted to configure Incoming Mail Security, check the option to Use Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) with Authentication set to Password.

On the Outgoing Mail Server screen (below), enter smtp1.hunter.cuny.edu as the server name. Then check Use Authentication.

On the Outgoing Mail Security screen, check Use Secure Sockets Layer (SSL).

The Account Summary screen should appear as follows. If the settings below (apart from your user name) are not the same as what you see on your screen, press Go Back and make them the same. Press Continue in each previous step until you get back to the screen below. Then press Continue.

Press the Done button on the Conclusion screen to complete the set up process. Take your account online and begin to work with your Hunter mail account.
