Email messages incorrectly flagged as Junk (spam)
Announcement posted on Thursday August 5, 2010 at 11:13 AM EDT.
Priority: Warning
An anomaly in the operation of our mail system is currently flagging more messages than usual as 'junk' or 'spam'. These messages are being moved to users' Junk Mail folder.
The Junk Mail folder is visible to WebMail users in their mail folder list at the left of the WebMail window. It is also visible to users of mail programs such as Outlook and Thunderbird *if the mail program is set up to connect to email using IMAP*. Users of mail programs set up to use POP3, an older system, will not see folders on the mail system. This applies to a large number of Hunter people who may be using Eudora and older mail programs.
To check if you are affected by this issue, please log on to https://webmail.hunter.cuny.edu/ using your usual NetID and password and look in the Junk folder in the left hand sidebar of the WebMail page. If you see any messages in there that are clearly not junk, click the check box at the very left hand side of each message [1], then click the icon "Not spam" in the toolbar above the message list [2]. This will move the messages into your Inbox folder. If you are using a mail program like Eudora, these messages will then appear in the program's Inbox in a few minutes.

- How to flag items as not spam
ICIT is working urgently with the vendor of the mail system to find the root cause of this issue and restore normal operations as fast as possible. More information will be posted to the ICIT Outages and Announcements sites as it becomes available.
