Eudora’s Junk Mail (SPAM) Filter
(Hunter licensed version only)
Eudora 6.1 has a new feature that allows you to filter spam and junk mail out of your inbox. Eudora distinguishes junk mail by a scoring system. You can adjust this scoring threshold by using the slide bar indicator. If you slide the arrow to a lower number, Eudora filters out more junk mail but may also mistakenly filter more valid mail to the Junk mailbox. If you slide the arrow to a higher number, Eudora filters less junk mail but is less likely to incorrectly filter valid mail. The default setting is 50. To set your filter, go to the menu bar, choose tools, then go to options. Choose Junk Mail Box, then select your thresehold.
Eudora recognizes incoming junk mail and sends it directly to the Junk mailbox.
(Figure 1)
Figure 1
Incoming messages will go through the Junk filter before any other filter you may have set up. After a certain number of days (30 days is the default), Eudora will automatically delete these messages.
Occasionally, Eudora may filter messages that are NOT junk into the Junk mailbox. There’s a new option in the Message menu that allows you to manage messages that have been incorrectly filtered into the Junk mailbox.

To transfer wanted mail to the appropriate mailboxes:
1. Scan the messages in your Junk mailbox and select those that are not junk mail.
2. From the Message menu, choose Not Junk. (Figure 2)
or
Right-click on the message and choose Not Junk from the context menu. (Figure 3)

This will send the messages you selected to the designated mailboxes you have previously set up.
ICIT recommends that you review the messages in the Junk mailbox before deleting them.
Over time, Eudora will learn which messages are not junk and filter them to your designated mailboxes automatically.
If you find junk mail in your other mailboxes, just select these messages, choose Junk from the Message menu, and they’ll be transferred to the Junk mailbox. (Figure 4) Eudora will learn to recognize these messages over time as well, and will filter them into the Junk mailbox.
