Grammar classes review the form and function of grammatical structures. Students learn to master various topics and integrate them into their writing and speaking.
Writing classes are designed to help students develop their written English in preparation for collegelevel courses. Students focus on learning the elements of effective essay writing: outlining, organizing, composing and self-editing.
Reading classes help students improve their reading comprehension and critical thinking skills. Students focus on academic reading strategies including: skimming, summarizing, reading for detail and reading for inference.
Oral Skills classes focus on improving students’ listening comprehension and spoken fluency. Students work on improving pronunciation and expanding vocabulary.
*Students who complete level 10 of the program and score a 10 on the Departmental Exam can waive the TOEFL score when applying to any CUNY undergraduate program except Baruch.
