Apple Ends Support for QuickTime for Windows; New Vulnerabilities Announced

CERT issues alert that Quicktime for Windows will not be patched for known vulnerabilities and should be uninstalled

US-CERT Alert (TA16-105A)

Alert:

Windows computers with Quicktime or Quicktime web browser plug-in

Potential impact:

Exploitation of QuickTime for Windows vulnerabilities could allow remote attackers to take control of affected systems. Computers running QuickTime for Windows will continue to work after support ends. However these systems remain at risk so long as the software or plug-in are present.

What to do:

Uninstall Quicktime, remove plug-in from browser, update/upgrade web browser to one that supports HTML5 if necessary (may be needed for devices running Windows 7 and older)
