1. What should I do if my faucet isn't working?

For repair requests, go to www.studenthousing.org/repairs. Enter your request, making sure to fill in all information as well as your room number. For example: TA-"room number" (TA-1234). Please note that MAC systems are not compatible. You must use a PC, several of which are located in the 97th St. building lobby. Please allow 24 hours for repairs to be completed.

2. What should I do if I get locked out of my room?

Visit the office before 10pm; for after-hours assistance, see security at the front desk. The first lock out is free of charge. Thereafter, the fee is $5.00 per lock out.

3. When are quiet hours?

Quiet hours are from 11pm-9am. Regardless of the hour, courtesy policies are always in effect. Please respect your neighbor's space. 24-hour quiet hours will be in affect during finals. We want to provide students with an atmosphere where they can relax and study.

4. What is the guest/overnight visitor policy?

Guests must register at the security desk by signing the registration book and showing a valid form of current identification. Security will print a "guest ID", which the guest returns to the front desk as they leave the building.

A resident may have a maximum of two short-term guests (one who stays for a few hours but not overnight) at any time between the hours of 8am and 12am. Short term guests must leave the building by 12am, or they will be considered an overnight guest.

An overnight guest is a guest who visits between the hours of 12am and 8am, regardless of whether they stay for several hours, or sleep in the room overnight. All residents must submit an Overnight Guest Form to the Student Life Office by 9pm for the same day overnight guest. A guest who stays for a single night must pay $5 per night until the 3rd night. A resident that stays from four to seven nights must pay $20 per night. No guest may stay longer than seven nights per month. A resident is only allowed to have up to seven overnight guests per calendar month.

5. What should I do if there is any emergency?

In case of any medical or police-related emergency, call 911. After calling 911, if you can, contact Security/Front Desk so that they aware of the situation. The security staff will locate the appropriate staff members to assist you in your emergency.

For non-urgent related matters while the office is closed, please call the RA on duty at (917) 750 -8410.

All rooms are equipped with both carbon monoxide and fire alarms. These are linked to building security systems that are monitored 24 hours a day by security agents at the front desk. If alarms are triggered, expect security to arrive at your door within minutes. Unless your room is actually on fire and you are in danger, EHS asks that you NOT open your door into the hallway- that allows smoke into the halls, which triggers the building-wide alarm. Open windows to ventilate your room instead. 

The building-wide alarm consists of sirens and lights on all floors. Listen for building-wide announcements over the speaker system which will confirm whether the alarm signifies a legitimate emergency, followed by directions of where to go and what to do next.

6. Does my housing contract auto-renew each year?

Housing contracts do not automatically renew. Students are required to re-apply for housing each year.
