1. How do I apply for housing at the 97th Street Residence?
The online application will be available to students at the end of April. You may indicate your interest in student housing by submitting an online student housing inquiry form. We will contact you once the application is available.
Scholar groups are given priority access to the residence and rooms will be assigned on a first-come first-served basis. If a room is to be assigned to you after receiving your completed online form, you will receive a communication instructing you to submit a Student Financial Agreement and a $250 non-refundable commitment deposit by May 1, 2013. Financial assistance will be available to eligible students.
2. How much is it expected to cost to live at the 97th Street Residence Hall?
Cost will be calculated based on occupancy period. Please refer to the occupancy payment chart (PDF) for further information.

4. Will financial aid be available?
Yes. Financial assistance will be available for eligible students. For more information, visit the Financial Aid website.
5. Will there be a payment plan?
Please indicate your interest in your application.
There is a $1,000 interest free Max & Reba E. Richter loan program that you can apply for each year of your residency. Please indicate interest on your housing application once you have been emailed the link to the application. Financial assistance will be available for eligible students.
6. For how long will a housing contract cover?
Contracts depend on occupancy period selected. Please see occupancy payment chart (PDF) for further information. Please note summers are NOT included.
7. Will I be able to cancel my contract?
Cancellations are on a case by case basis. Students who wish to cancel must contact the Office of Residence Life and will have to follow the cancellation procedures laid out in their signed contract. Please note, students are contracted to reside at the 97th Street Residence for a full* academic year which includes Fall, Winter and Spring. Summers are NOT included.
8. Will I be able to stay at the 97th Street Residence during the holidays?
Yes. The building will remain open for students to stay on-campus during the academic calendar year which includes holidays and winter intersession. Summers are NOT included.
9. Will I be able to stay in the 97th Street Residence hall for all my four years?
All contracts will be for one* full academic year. You will be required to reapply for your housing application yearly if you would like to maintain residency at the residence hall.
10. What security does the 97th Street Residence have?
The 97 Street Residence has 24-hour security on-site along with numerous security cameras throughout the building and a strictly enforced guest policy.
11. Will the 97th Street Residence be co-ed?
The 97th Street Residence will be coed. However, double and triple rooms will be shared by the same gender.
12. Who is eligible to live in the 97th Street Residence?
Scholar groups are given priority access to the 97th Street Residence.
Students who have been accepted to the 97th Street Residence must be matriculated and enroll in and maintain a full-time course load of at least 12 credit hours and be in good academic standing.
The 97th Street Residence is also home to students from several other colleges in New York City.
Amenities at the 97th Street Residence Hall include 24-hour security, professional live-in Residence Life staff, room and residence key-card entry, fully furnished rooms, air conditioning, refrigerator and microwave in room, in-room bathroom, cable TV, high-speed internet in room, laundry facilities, communal kitchens and lounges, 24-hour gym facilities, and public computers.
14. Will the amenities (meeting room, library, kitchens, gym and internet lounge) be available 24 hours?
Yes.
15. Are there bathrooms in the rooms or are they shared on the floor?
Both double and triple rooms have a full bathroom (shower, sink, toilet) in each unit.
16. Are there washer and dryers in the residence?
There is a laundry room in the 97th Street Residence. You must pay to use the washers and dryers which will text you when your clothes are ready.
17. Will I be able to smoke in my room?
There is a no smoking policy. Smoking will not be allowed anywhere on the premises.
18. Will there be a storage facility for my bike?
No, you will need to store your bike in your room.
19. Will there be cable, phone and/or internet connections in the rooms?
Yes; there will also be a wireless internet connection.
20. Will we be allowed to have any pets?
No. There will be a no pet policy (this includes fish).
21. Will I be allowed to bring my own furniture?
No.
22. Are there accommodations for persons with disabilities?
If you are a person with a disability and require accommodation please contact the Office of Residence Life.
23. What kind of activities and student life is expected at the 97th Street Residence?
There will be on-going activities and programming provided by the residence staff.

25. Where would I get my mail?
There is one mailbox assigned to each room. The mailboxes are located in the lobby of the residence hall that you access with your key. Packages delivered by UPS, Federal Express and other services are left with security in the resident hall.
26. What is the closest mode of transportation and how long does it take to get to campus?
The 6 train on 96th and Lexington Avenue. The commute to Hunter College's main campus takes approximately 10 minutes. You may also take the M98 bus from Lexington Avenue and E 96th Street to the Lexington Avenue and E 69th Street stop.
Hunter College and the 97th Street Residence will not provide any parking or stipend for students. However, there is a private parking garage near the Residence with monthly rates.
28. How many students will be there?
The 97th Street Residence Hall is home to more than 1,100 students from colleges all over the city. Hunter is expected to have 97 students during the 2013-2014 academic year.
29. Can I request to live with my friend?
Yes, you can indicate your friends name on our application form but requests cannot be guaranteed. In addition, requested friends must meet the same eligibility criteria and be accepted to the residence hall for consideration. Roommates must be of the same gender.
30. Will I be able to switch roommates if we do not get along?
Every effort will be made to work with roommates to ensure they are able to peacefully co-exist in the same living environment. Residence Life staff will be available to assist roommates who may have conflicts.
