Developing Leaders Through Graduate Education

The McNair Scholars Program has given me the opportunity to engage in research which has completely altered my life.

As a first generation college student, I had no immediate personal connections to give me pointers or to help me navigate through higher education. McNair has provided me with the academic guidance and research training necessary to help me achieve my goal of getting into graduate school.

The McNair Program has boosted my academic confidence, given me exposure to the world of graduate study, and humbled me as a student. The extracurricular experiences and educational opportunities have been coupled with lasting support and friendships that I will always value.

The McNair Scholars program has been the turning point of my life. I know now for sure what I want to do in my life, and this program is the segway to help me reach my goals. It made what was once a dream, a reality- Graduate School!

Abobaker Mused, McNair Scholar (2007-2009)
BA/MA in Economics from Hunter College, The City University of New York

The Ronald E. McNair has helped me to pave my way to graduate school. My experience in the summer research program enormously enhanced my academic skills. In addition to conducting my own research project under the mentorship of a faculty member in my field, I also learned to prepare poster and PowerPoint presentations for conferences, and improved my public speaking. As an ESL student, I realized great improvements in my writings especially over the past fall. Overall, Iím quite grateful to have received the opportunity to be in the McNair program, as well as to benefit from Dr. Oliverís precious insights and the coordinatorís dedication to burst my academic career. Thanks!

Daise Zannoni, McNair Scholar (2007-2009)
