Hewett Chiu
Executive Director, MHSC
New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene


Before coming to MHSC at the Department of Health and Mental Hygiene, Hewett Chiu was the chairman of the board, president, and CEO of the Academy of Medical & Public Health Services, where he created a community-based approach to integrating clinical care with social services to address social determinants of health for high risk and vulnerable populations. He also served as executive managing partner at a strategy and operations consulting practice for nonprofit and government agencies and was an Emergency Medical Services (EMS) clinician and a New York State EMS Examiner.

Hewett is an Emergency Cardiovascular Care faculty member for the American Heart Association, a fellow of the Academy for Healthcare Management, a member of the American College of Healthcare Executives, and a member of the American Health Lawyers Association in its Business Law & Governance Practice Group. He is also an adjunct faculty member teaching public sector leadership and health policy and management at NYU Wagner Graduate School of Public Service. In 2015, he was named a Margaret E. Mahoney Fellow of the New York Academy of Medicine and is a board trustee of the New York Dollars for Scholars. For his work improving public health and education, he has been recognized by President George W. Bush, the New York Guard Command Sergeant Major, the United States Congress, the New York City Council, and the New York State Assembly.

A native New Yorker, Hewett holds a BS in Neuroscience from New York University, and an MPA with a specialization in health law and finance from the NYU Wagner Graduate School of Public Service, NYU School of Law, and NYU Stern School of Business.


Clinical Operations

Kenneth Myers, LCSW
Senior Director of Clinical Operations


Kenneth Myers oversees MHSC’s clinical staff, as well as strategic planning, ongoing improvement, and troubleshooting for clinical activities. He has over 15 years of professional experience within the practice areas of behavioral health, collaborative care, HIV/AIDS prevention and care, substance use, and LGBTQ youth homelessness. Kenneth works to promote LGBTQ-affirming health care for individuals who often face stigma and discrimination within health care systems. Prior to joining MHSC, Kenneth was the Regional Director of Psychosocial Services for a large Federally Qualified Health Center in New York City. He is certified by the National Council for Behavioral Health as a Mental Health First Aid instructor (adult and youth curricula). He earned certificates in Advanced Clinical Practice at New York University’s Silver School of Social Work and in Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy at the Albert Ellis Institute. Kenneth holds a Master’s degree in Social Work from the University of Washington.


Jabari Jones, MD
Assistant Medical Director/Acting Medical Director

Dr. Jabari Jones oversees clinical aspects of the MHSC program and also shares his expertise in training clinicians and providing behavioral health care in innovative ways. Prior to joining MHSC, Dr. Jones worked in emergency rooms and hospital units in the South Bronx and Brooklyn, and has worked as an integrative-care psychiatrist in the San Francisco Bay Area. Dr. Jones is also a certified Emotional Intelligence consultant who has led numerous seminars on the subject and has spoken at national conferences about practical steps that can be taken to achieve emotional health.  He strives to empower those around him to unlock their unique and diverse talents. Dr. Jones received his undergraduate degree from the University of Toronto and his MD from Albany Medical College.


Joe Ege, MSW
Senior Clinical Manager

Joe Ege joined MHSC at its inception as a supervising social worker and now oversees supervising clinicians. Previously, he served for eight years as a clinical director at a substance abuse outpatient clinic. Joe is a CASAC-credentialed alcoholism and substance abuse treatment counselor and is currently receiving training at the Center for Modern Psychoanalytic Studies. He received his MSW from the Hunter College School of Social Work.


Kathryn Sacks-Colon, LCSW-R
Senior Clinical Manager


Kathryn Sacks-Colon supports the implementation of clinical services across a variety of treatment settings by overseeing supervising social workers.  She has nearly 10 years experience as an administrator in the mental health field. Prior to joining MHSC as a supervising social worker in 2016, Kathryn served as a program director of Supported Housing within Weston United, a community-based organization that serves residents of Harlem and the Bronx. Kathryn provides direct patient care at Riverdale Mental Health Association and also as part of her trauma training at the Institute for Contemporary Psychotherapy. Kathryn earned her MSW from Fordham University Graduate School of Social Service.


Olga Victor, MSW
Senior Clinical Manager

Olga Victor oversees supervising clinicians to ensure the implementation of best practices and to address site-based clinical issues. She has over 20 years of experience as an administrator of child and adolescent, adult, and senior programs. Prior to joining MHSC she worked for a Federally Qualified Health Center, where she was part of the first team to implement the collaborative care model there, focusing on the integration of behavioral health services into primary care. Olga received her MSW from Fordham University Graduate School of Social Service.


Practice Engagement

Jennifer Menges, LCSW
Director of Practice Engagement

Jennifer leads the practice engagement team’s efforts to integrate behavioral health clinicians into their primary care and behavioral health sites and to strengthen relationships with stakeholders. Previously, she served as a Social Work Supervisor at MHSC, providing supervision to Cohort 2 behavioral health clinicians. Jennifer came to MHSC with more than 15 years of experience in nonprofit clinical and organizational operations, strategic planning, performance improvement, and team leadership. Jennifer received her MSW from Fordham University Graduate School of Social Work and her BS in Economics from Carnegie Mellon University.


Antoinette Jennings, MA, CRC
Assistant Manager, Practice Engagement


Antoinette Jennings assists in the recruitment, orientation, and monitoring of MHSC sites, as well as in hiring and managing the Practice Engagement Specialists team. She also works to develop approaches to collecting information, identifying challenges with and recommending improvements to current systems and processes. Antoinette has more than 18 years of experience in the fields of workforce development, health care, social services, and compliance in positions including Certified Rehabilitation Counselor, vocational expert, quality improvement/assurance specialist, and researcher. She received her Master’s in Counseling and Personnel Services from the University of Maryland at College Park and her Bachelor’s degrees in Psychology and Africana Studies from Binghamton University.


Shirley Yi, MPH
Assistant Manager, Practice Engagement


Shirley Yi manages the Practice Engagement Specialists team and works to optimize team processes to ensure that each site is fully engaged to support MHSC’s mission. She has more than six years of experience in the public health field, working in nonprofit program development and community engagement initiatives. Shirley received her MPH from Hunter College.


Training

Eddie Pabon, LCSW-R
Director of Training and Education


Eddie leads the ongoing training and education activities that are essential to the MHSC model. Previously, he was a Social Work Supervisor at MHSC, providing supervision to behavioral health clinicians deployed at CUNY campuses, pediatric clinics, and primary care practices. Eddie came to MHSC with over 30 years of professional experience, including serving as executive director of adult education for Allied Health Programs. He received his MSW from SUNY Stony Brook and his BA in Politics, Economics, and Society at SUNY Old Westbury. He also holds a Psychodynamic Psychotherapy Certification from the Institute of Contemporary Psychotherapy.


Daniela Pereira, LMHC
Training Supervisor

Daniela Pereira joined MHSC in 2016 as a Training Specialist and currently oversees all trainings related to the behavioral health clinicians, including quarterly in-person trainings, webinar and online trainings, orientation training, and on-going training initiatives and projects. Previously, Daniela worked in various mental health settings including substance use clinics, behavioral health clinics, schools, and private practices. She received her Master’s degree in Mental Health Counseling from Hunter College.


Communications

Ria Lubis
Director of Communications and External Affairs


Ria Lubis oversees all of MHSC’s internal and external communications initiatives. She has over 20 years of marketing, strategy, business development, branding, and communications experience in the private sector. With a growing interest in supporting community healthcare, prior to joining MHSC, Ria served as Assistant Director of Communications and Marketing at NYC Health + Hospitals, one of the largest public healthcare systems in the U.S. Previously, she worked for companies including Technologic Partners (Dow Jones Media), American Lawyer Media (ALM), International Institute for Business Information & Growth, and the Strategic Research Institute. Her experience spans the fields of finance, life science, energy, education, technology, and multicultural/diversity marketing. Ria received her BA in English from the University of Maryland, College Park.


Human Resources

Pam Peterkin-White
Director of Personnel Engagement


Pam oversees MHSC’s human resources functions, including employee relations, performance management, and organizational development. She has more than 25 years of HR experience across a variety of different industries, including 15 years in the health care field. Pam received her MEd in Education and Human Resource Studies from Colorado State University, specializing in Organizational Learning, Performance and Change. She received her BA in Sociology cum laude from Lehman College (CUNY) as a Lehman Scholar.
